چکیده

The ongoing changes affecting Lake Urmia (NW Iran) are revealed by the lake water level decrease (~7 m in last 20 yr) that was attributed to natural and anthropogenic causes but exact impact of these factors on state is still not identified. Indeed, lack detailed record environmental evolution past limits understanding actual future processes. Our project aims obtain a high-temporal resolution area for ~30 kyrs. Sediment cores have been obtained from recently dried out part near City, surface ground waters measured electric conductivity. This paper presents results sediments analyses. Six 14C AMS dating organic fractions provide chronological framework indicate covers cal kyr BP. During this period, evaporitic conditions were prevailing lake. conductivity brines sediment highlights salinity. data lake-level low stand at BP followed rise establishment lacustrine next ~9 kyr, phase representing highest recorded since time date. From LGM, experienced several fluctuations level. relatively long-term condition established during Early Holocene before between ~5.5 4.9 Sediments two dry events 5.5–4.9 characterized presence greigite, which indicates anaerobic early diagenetic sediment.

Molecular and phenotypic characterization of ascomycetous yeasts in hypersaline soils of Urmia Lake basin (NW Iran)

Abstract The Urmia Lake National Park (NW Iran) represents a unique ecosystem owing to special ecological conditions prevailing the region. The Urmia Lake National Park comprises a range of normal to extreme environments, with variable range of salinity between 120-300 g/L. The present study was aimed to characterize ascomycetous yeast mycobiota inhabiting hypersaline soils in this region. Soi...

records of late quaternary climate changes in magnetic susceptibility of azadshahr loess

introduction in general, loess sediments are one of the most widespread forms of aeolian sediments. during the past few decades, loess stratigraphy studies played key role in the investigation about global climate changes. these sediments are usually yellowish in color and silt makes 70 to 90 percent of its volume. in iran, loesses outcrop are often in northeast part of south caspian sea. the p...

Urmia Lake (Northwest Iran): a brief review

Lake Urmia (or Ormiyeh) is one of the largest hypersaline lakes in the world and the habitat of a unique bisexual Artemia species (A. urmiana). Despite this, and several other values of the lake, little literature on it has been published. The present paper is an attempt to provide a brief review on various aspects of the lake. Urmia Lake, located in northwestern Iran, is an oligotrophic lake o...
